At an event on Friday 30th April, Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hunter released Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals: A Growth Sector for Hunter Central Coast to an audience of 50 industry, business, government, heath, education and research representatives.
The publication, developed in collaboration with the Hunter Central Coast (HCC) Medical Technologies & Pharmaceuticals (MTP) industry base, research & education organisations and sector experts, highlights new facts and statistics about the capability of the region’s MTP industry base and promotes the importance of the sector for the Hunter Central Coast’s future. It pinpoints opportunities for industry/research/health sector collaboration which will lead to industry and jobs growth.
This blueprint for future industries in the region incorporates the results of a recent capability audit of the Hunter Central Coast MTP sector and presents the case for the region as a viable MTP precinct.
MTP: A Growth Sector for HCC has been developed by the MedTeCCH initiative – a partnership between RDA Hunter and Ai Group (Hunter office). It will be used to engage with State and Federal bodies and decision-makers to build awareness of the Hunter Central Coast’s capabilities, improve industry engagement and encourage industry growth.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, The Hon Gabrielle Upton MP commended RDA Hunter, Ai Group and local MTP companies for taking the initiative in forming MedTeCCH, saying it was a great example of industry, research and government collaborating to create more jobs, services and products.
“The NSW Government’s Turning Ideas into Jobs Accelerating R&D Action Plan supports these kinds of collaborations between sectors in NSW’s innovation ecosystem.
“It is especially gratifying to see the Central Coast Hunter precinct draw on its industry strengths to positively contribute as a hub for research commercialisation and as an investment location,” Ms Upton said.

The MedTech and Pharmaceuticals (MTP) industry is a sector of strength and opportunity given its propensity to deliver innovation-driven jobs growth, and build on existing medical and advanced manufacturing capability.
